Our story takes place in the near future. Emmy and Lynn have recently made a promise to one another. They hurry home to tell Emmy's parents, but nobody is home. They scavenge a water conduit and happen upon a ring that has fallen from high society above. However, the ring does contain information, and Ko finds a way to use this to get money. He suggests that the two of them use it to leave the slums behind them and ascend to the upper stratum. They agree on a meeting place, and Ko goes to get the money. Youni leaves to meet Ko but is surrounded by a group of augmented men. Youni thought the days of selling her body to get by in this twisted, cruel, and unforgiving world were behind her, but the men show her no mercy. She never asked for this.
